Dog Photo Upload

PawVillage will review all photos during the validation process and reserves the right to remove any images that are determined to be inappropriate for any reason. Photos to be uploaded are subject to the following restrictions:

  • the image file must be 30KB or less;
  • the image must be at a resolution of 72 dpi;
  • the image must be in the JPEG file format with the file extension .JPG;
  • the image must be optimized for use on the web;
  • no website or email address may appear in the image;
  • the rights to the photo must belong to you, or you must have explicit permission to upload the image to PawVillage from the the individual or organization who owns it;
  • the image must be appropriate for all viewers.
To upload a photo for the dog's home page on PawVillage, please click on the Photo Upload tab on the Dog Edit page. If a photo is already available for that particular record, the tab will read Modify Current Photo. You will then be brought to the Dog Photo Upload page where you will be able to browse your own computer and automatically upload your image to the PawVillage server for instant access through the Online Pedigree Databasetm.

Please click on portions of the image below to access help about that item.

To prevent public viewing of unsuccessful image uploads while you are adding a photo to the dog's record, images are by default disabled and not accessible by the public. When your image is uploaded successfully, it will be necessary to enable public viewing of the image by clicking on the camera icon.

To crop, edit, or enhance your photo before uploading to PawVillage, try Picasa - Google's free photo organizing and editing software. Click the button at left to download Picasa. It has tools to fix color and contrast, remove red-eye, and create effects such as sepia tone or black & white. To edit a photo using Picasa, double-click the photo to open it in the Edit Picture window. Automatically enhance a photo in just one step using the I'm Feeling Lucky button under the Basic Fixes tab.

To crop a photo in Picasa's Edit Picture window, click Basic Fixes (the tab at the top left of the Edit Picture window), then click Crop. Selecting manual lets you crop the photo to a custom size. Click the left mouse button and hold it down while dragging the mouse to make a rectangle to crop to. Click Cancel if you make a mistake or OK if you are satisfied with the crop.

In Picasa, resizing and image quality options are available during the export process. Left-click the photo to select it, then click Export at the bottom right of the window. Under the heading Image Size Options, click Resize to: and select a size below 650 pixels. Under the heading Image Quality, use the slider to select a JPEG setting of 30% or less. For use on the web a higher JPEG setting is unnecessary and will result in an excessive file size. If the file size of your photo is still too large (greater than 30 KB) to upload to PawVillage, try reducing the pixel width and image quality further.

Edits made to photo files using Picasa are not saved automatically. To save an edited photo, left-click the photo to select it and click Export at the bottom right of the window to create a new JPG file.

Submitting an image grants PawVillage a non-exclusive license to the image. All images may be copied and reused in promotional advertising or otherwise at the sole discretion of PawVillage. For additional information, please see the Terms of Use.
