Yale du Chemin des Dames

He was sold at weaning and judged to be too sharp by his first owners and returned to the Chemin des Dames kennel at 18 months. He physically reflected the type from his mother's line more than that of Willy's. He was 63 centimeters high, very strong, built squarely, very masculine overall with good legs. His head wasn't chiseled enough and was a little coarse, but it was admirably coiffed with very small ears.
From an accident he had 20.2 centimeters of hairless skin on the side of his chest which disqualified him from the show ring. He was remarkably intelligent and affectionate. He spent his days with an 18 month old infant, never doing him the slightest harm. But it was impossible to sweep in front of him. This was an old spite of his, dating from his infancy, and within 10 seconds of the first sweep, the broom handle would be cut in two with one blow of his jaw, then he would contentedly, while wagging his tail, hold these pieces to the side and not allow anyone to gather them up.
The kennel kept him for the purpose of improving the qualities of sharpness and sound sensitivity in the line, but he proved to be a remarkable reproducer of pure beauty. BBA p69-70
