An interesting example are the two successive breedings of Matelot, a very mahogany fawn to the long hair black Opale du Chemin des Dames. Out of fourteen subjects, there were four black, six fawn and four grey. This shows us that Matelot, in spite of his beautiful color, was heterozygous for the fawn.
