April 11, 2005... The Spitfire “Z” litter finally arrived! It was exactly one year and five days since I'd said goodbye to my last beloved Belgian, "Oz". I was ready for a puppy in my life, and one look at a roly, poly newborn wearing a gold ribbon left me certain this guy was “The One”! I crossed my fingers and practically glued them together hoping after all the priority picks were made I would get my boy! He was all I could think about! Ten weeks later, tucked under my arm as we boarded the plane from Texas, I really didn't need to fly home....I was already walking on air!! I knew I carried precious cargo. For me, Cole will always be just that. A loose translation of Spitfire’s Zar la Casa de Cole is “King of the House of Cole”. It’s an appropriate Belgian name! He truly is King of our home and ruler of my heart! Little did I realize our journey would bless us with five strangers who’ve become family as we raised this extraordinary “Z Gang”!I will always be grateful for their unconditional love and support.
Cole is my First Obedience Dog, First Titled Dog, First Group Placer, First Champion. I started him and his Grandma, Sherry Hanley, finished him in spectacular style with 3 major wins in 2 weekends! As "icing on our cake", during the 2009 Belgian National Specialty, "The House of Cole" was honored to proudly basque in our 15 seconds of fame during the Parade of Titleholders.
From the moment I brought him home, I felt Cole was worthy of the opportunity to become a Champion. I also knew in order to give him that chance I would have to step "way" out of my comfort zone to learn all I could about the Conformation world. Sitting on the sidelines was as close as I'd ever been. Today, I still consider myself a work in progress! Fortunately, Cole is a very quick learner AND would scale Mt. Everest for a treat! He is such a happy guy he almost bounces when he enters the ring! His joyous personality fills my days with laughter and meaning and keeps me young at heart. May he NEVER grow up! He is all that I hoped for - more than I dreamed of. He has made my Bucket List ten times over and Lord willing, we’re not finished! I have learned SO MUCH on this journey with him and made so many friends in the process. To all of you who support us and to those who have unselfishly mentored us solely out of the goodness of your hearts, I can only say thank you from the bottom of mine! Your phone calls, emails, pats on the back, smiles and encouraging words have made this experience an unbelievable one! You've given me the courage to accomplish what in the beginning seemed only an impossible dream. Cole and I are blessed to call you friends!
