It was not until around 1925 or 1927 that the breeders had truly reconstituted their kennels and regained a serious selection of animals. Marquis was one of the two best males of the time.

He was of medium height, very typey, but possessing, in my opinion, less distinction and class than Kiss Kisch. As a stud for the Cavalerie Kennel, which battled with the Courtaux Kennel for supremacy in the Groenendael variety, he saw one of his sons, Bayard de la Cavalerie, succeed him one time as a winner of the CAC.
