Whilst staying with "Othiz" breeders (the Barbes) we fell in love with a young Groenendael male (Ch Gydo v't Belgisch Schoon at Ebontide) who had recently been returned to them and who was sired by Othiz ex Nice Nady v't Belgisch Schoon. We immediately bought him and he was released from quarantine in September 1993. The rest they say is history. "Gydo" gained his crown in July 1994 and he is now siring offspring which will hopefully prove to be of some value to future Groenendael.

Gydo was only shown once in Holland, and that was at the Dutch Belgian Shepherd Dog Specialty in March 1993 where he won the Breeders Class.
Since Gydo's release from quarantine in the middle of September 1993 he has been making quite an impact on the show scene and has achieved the following awards:

Gydo fulfilled all our hopes and dreams when he gained his crown in July. Our sincere thanks to the judges concerned and to fellow exhibitors and friends for all their support and encouragement whilst campaigning this lovely extrovert dog. Never out of the cards his awards were as follows:

Birmingham 1st Limit BSD Judith Cloutt
Bath 2nd Limit BSD Zena Thom Andrews
NBSDC 1st Limit Groen & Reserve Best Groen Mme A Heraly

Gydo then took a well earned rest from the show ring, but was still kept busy siring a litter to our Ebontide Faberge (1 CC, 2 RCC) and to other suitable young ladies.
The 1995 show season will hopefully see Gydo children, including our own making an impact in the show ring, and we wish their owners much luck for the future. (Janice and Roger Clifford, Ebontide) 1995 YB p100-101
1995 was a quiet year at Ebontide, as we only attended a few shows due to work commitments.
However, Gydo still added 1 CC, 2 Reserve CC's and 4 Diploma of Merits to his long list of credits, as well as being BEST IN SHOW at the BSDA Autumn Open Show, where he also gained the top accolade of being graded EXCELLENT in character.
More importantly, Gydo is proving to be a noteworthy sire, producing dogs and bitches of both excellent type and character.
In their first year of showing, his kids have won numerous Best Puppy awards, Best Puppy in Show awards, and Kris, Jude and Tish's 'Foryd Jai' has won her first CC whilst still in puppy.
1996 will see more Gydo kids hitting the show scene (literally!!!), and we wish them and their owners much luck for the future.
Coming soon. Something Special from Ebontide.

The year started with the safe arrival of the "T" litter and continued with Gydo winning all classes, except one (where he was still Best Groenendael) and adding a futher 2 CC's, 2 RCC's and numerous Diploma of Merits to his ever lengthening list of credits.
Looking to the future, repeat of the "T" litter planned Spring 1997.

Gydo came out of retirement at the BSDA of GB show just to prove he's still got what it takes and guess what, he was Dog CC, Best Groenendael, Reserve Best in Show, Best Opposite Sex in Show as well as Best Veteran in Show. Then he popped along to a Local Open Show and went Best in Show.
His daughter, Rilla [photo unavailable] looks set to follow in his footsteps. Already she is a multiple Best Puppy and Best of Breed winner.
We are looking forward to showing the Groenendaels separately next year.

(Janice and Roger Clifford, Ebontide) 2002 YB p199
Gydo was imported from Holland at 13 months of age and took the show scene by storm immediately he came out of quarantine. He produced a number of champions and CC winners, but it is for his outstanding character and personality that we will remember him for. His health deteriorated very quickly and he was given sleep to save any suffering. The house is very quiet without him. He is irreplaceable. (Ebontide)
