My love for dogs - especially the "Berger Belges" - began in 1939 and since that period I have been living with one or more Groenendaels at home.
During World War II, I had a restaurant located in an area supervised by the German Customs. In order to perform revictualling I was accostomed to ride my bicycle at night - escorted by my dog "Black" - along twenty or thirty kilometers. In these times my dog often helped me for he had taken the habit of locating the German Customs House officers who watched over the roads. "Black" was walking before me and when he stopped we hid either in the trench or behind bushes; when he raised his head and jumped on to the road moving his tail left and right, we could go on since the danger had disappeared.
When "Black" died, I got in touch with the "Societe Canine de Paris" in order to know where I could find a dog with origins: then came my "Boum" - a very clever dog. After that I founded a dog breeding kennel from which came some individuals you have known. I could hardly enumerate all of them, but they gave me a lot of affection and they often helped me to go through hard events.
Very often, when I walk around among my numerous four-legged children, I remember when I started. "Boum", a Groenendael Belgian Shepherd Dog, was the one who introduced me to the large canine family where he worked so beautifully. Already, only at the age of 11 months, he won in Tarare his police and defence certificate with an amazing total of 100 points out of 100. "Boum" was a loving, bright, intelligent dog and he was the greatest delight for everyone.

The d'Artamas kennel began with a couple from a French kennel: the male Boum LOF 7905 and the female Cirka du Comte Vert. They were very quickly joined by some imported Belgian subjects. The best of them were the studs Etna de l'Infermal LOF 10230 and above all Fat de l'Infernal LOF 11383. BBA p84-85
