photo article from 1954 Aug Dog World p74

During the course of his 1946-1950 show career, 11 CAC's in 11 shows, and at the same shows, 6 CACIB's.
When shown for the first time at the Royal Dog Club of Hainaut Show at Binche, February 10, 1946, Mr O'Bean and our wise old man, Mr Charles Huge, praised him....
Mr O'Bean: entirely the most brillant subject which one has possibly seen for the last 30yrs: a head of rare distinction, admirably constructed trunk, with solid muscle covered over by a wonderfully tufted coat; a dog who, according to all accounts, honors his father, Ilion; and above all Mr Beaudoux's kennel, where he was born.
Mr Huge: a star of the first magnitude. What a distinction, my friends! What a noble commanding presence and what fineness in the breed! Add to this a coat in the best condition, which one cannot wish to be more beautiful or more complete! I do not hesitate to say that since the first Groenendael known, belonging to Mrs Rose and Mrs Desmet, I have seen nearly all the beauty phenomena but not one has impressed me as much as this dog. I uttered that before my friends (Drossart and Antoine Leenaerts, also a veteran) and they agreed unanimously with me. With these physical qualities, this dog of 11 months testifies to a free character, without the slightest nervousness, always ready to go. BBA p22-23

He was a large dog of 65 centimeters at the withers who presented himself with a great deal of pride. Well-legged, he nevertheless remained very elegant and had good lines which made the dog appear to be totally harmonious. The head was long without excess, well-chiseled with a medium sized ear. He had good pigmentation and an excellent coat. BBA p41

1942 - The first Belgian war-time gathering of Berger Belge to evaluate the existing stock. Ilion, a black with a grey undercoat, out of the grey Filoza, is highly recommended for breeding.

1945 - Birth of the famous black, Tan de l'Infernal, sired by Ilion. BBA p8
